 Here at 3DPrint.co.uk we provide the service necessary to turn 2D designs as well as CAD files, into your own 3D model, prototype or structure. Whether you are an architectural firm looking for a scale model of building plans, or just exploring 3D printing for the first time and want to print some novelty toys for family and friends, all is possible in the 3D printing industry.

We can start from any point of the process, be it consulting you to create the design and final product needed, or just building a Prototype 3D model from your own designs. Either way the finished product will be delivered to you ready to impress clients, friends and even yourself.

With the ever growing use of CAD, designers are having a small scale Prototype created before the production tooling is ordered. This is to ensure the integrity of the design. Designers are also using full size prototype models to show their clients. This ensures the size, shape and form of a new design are not flawed and work efficiently. 

What files do we accept?

We accept most major 3D file formats, but  STL (for non coloured parts) and OBJ or VRML (for full colour parts) are the preferred options. The full list of file types we can convert to parts are: AMF, MXP, CLI, SLC,  MTT, CLS, SSL, F&S, SLI, matPart, OBJ, SKP, WRL, VRML, X3DV, 3DM, 3DS, PRJ, DXF, PLY, ZCP, X3D, ZPR, FBX, DAE
 
When printing full colour parts, the file is best supplied as OBJ and VRML with a texture file rather than using vertex colours - this way the print will have the best possible colour resolution.

Why use 3D Print?

There are numerous benefits to use 3Dprint in Prototyping. 3D printing technology is cheaper, faster and more accurate than SLA and SLS machines. With the added benefits such as no nasty chemicals. No nasty powders or resins to handle. It is better for the environment.

Technical Details about our prototyping service:

3D printing, how does it work?
3D printing works by converting a 3D digital design into thin cross sections that are determined by the 3D printer software. This information is sent to the machine (3D Printer) where it starts to deposit material. Layer by layer, one layer above the other which eventually creates a 3-Dimensional object. This process is called Additive Layer Manufacturing.

More About the Prototype Service We offer:
In full colour we print in 'full colour sandstone'.  Which is a composite consisting mostly of British gypsum.  The finished print is then treated either in a dip of cyanoacrylate (recommended) or epoxy resin.  CA gives a great finish and brings out the colour but the parts are more brittle and could break if dropped.  Epoxy doesn't give a great colour finish and can blur finer details, but does add strength.  Epoxy takes an extra 2 days lead time due to dying.  The layer thickness is 100 microns and parts can be sanded.

Prototype Maximum Build size:
The max build size on the full colour machine is 254 x 381 x 203 mm.  We'd recommend minimum wall thicknesses of 2mm and 3mm if the wall is unsupported as the parts are extremely fragile until treated.

What is the typical time it takes for creation and dispatching the 3D Prototype?
We aim to try and complete your order as fast as possible however it is largely dependent on factors such as size and complexity of design. So timing can vary but we always make sure you are satisfied and kept up to date with the building process.

What machine do we use for your Prototype?
For us to create your designs and prototypes we use 3D Systems ProJet 660 Pro. The 3D Systems ProJet 660Pro 3D Printer is the simplest and most efficient large-build, full-colour 3D printer of its class on the market. With a net Build Area of 254 x 381 x 203 mm. With a build and speed of 1.1 inches an hour, it is fast and very accurate. It uses eco-friendly and non-hazardous materials with zero liquid waste. The ProJet 660 Pro prints to a resolution of 600 x 540 dpi with a minimum feature size of 0.004 inches and does not incorporate supports.
